Robotics

We work with brilliant robotic systems engineers in the industry. Sometimes the ground stations of their systems can fit in the breast pocket of an operator, but other times they are as big as a global network of antennas and control centers. We've worked with systems at each extreme, and in between.


 

what we've achieved

Through our successes, our customers have fielded new launch vehicles, deployed satellites and space probes, delivered fleets of aircraft both manned and unmanned, developed special payloads for military missions in the air and undersea, and integrated weapons systems into ground-based and airborne platforms. One company even took a large U.S. government contract one of our principals helped them win and went public 18 months later, with a market capitalization today of over $1.5 billion USD.

 

We helped define the aircraft/stores interface for a new class of miniature smart munition, the Small Diameter Bomb (GBU-39 & -53), a weapon that blurs the lines between a guided munition and a drone. Defining the interface was a challenge, since this new weapon and bomb racks had to facilitate unfettered use by all legacy smart bomb-capable NATO fighter and bomber aircraft.

We've been active in an  OTA consortium , cooperating with the U.S. government partner to develop solutions for unmanned systems utilizing interoperability standards such as JAUS (now published SAE AS-4 standards) and ROS. We also lead approved imports and exports for specific UGV and UAV products and services solutions.

What the future holds

The market's appetite for robotics and unmanned systems keeps pulling developers into new opportunities, in a self-perpetuating cycle of demand driving investment – with Moore's Law feeding capability growth at reduced cost and size. This cycle of innovation provides a continuous stream of new opportunities to pursue, on Earth and elsewhere.

Even Wall Street has acknowledged this high-growth market via 6 new ETFs focused on Robotics & AI, as well as 2 others focused on Robotics & AI -applied markets: Drones ("IFLY") and New Space ("UFO"). Case in point: the Industrial Robotics market sub-segment alone is expected to grow from $91.5B in 2016 to $188B by 2020 (International Federation of Robotics, World Robotics Report 2017).

PLANETARY ROBOTICS: We've helped to win Mars2020 Rover robotics work with JPL, as well as multi-divisional engineering services contracts there. We've also worked with staff at other NASA facilities including JSC, Goddard, Ames, Langley, and NASA HQ. We're currently helping a large client expand their position in this specialized field.
